Taxis
Taxis are readily available to and from the airport or
Ferry Dock. They are also available for island tours.
Rates are preset, there are no meters.
Driving
Driving is on the left and the speed limit is 30 mph.
To rent a car you'll need your valid driver's license
from your resident country, and $20 to purchase a temporary
Anguilla driver's license. Temporary Anguilla driver's
licenses are available through car rental agencies. Well-maintained
rental cars and jeeps are readily available. The major
car rental companies such as Avis and Budget are located
near the airport on Anguilla. The Avis on Anguilla’s phone
is 264.497.2642 and the Thrifty on Anguilla is 264.497.2656.
Car seats are available at rental agencies. Reservations
for 'in season' car rentals and children's car seats should
be made in advance.
Two Wheeled Rentals
Many visitors to sightsee on a bike or scooter. Bikes
are available from about $10 per day, scooters from about
$20 per day.
Money Matters
US currency is widely accepted throughout the island.
Prices on menus, in hotels and for activities are generally
quoted in US dollars. ATMs on Anguilla accept international
bank cards. Currently there are five ATMs located conveniently
throughout the Island: one each at National Bank of Anguilla
(NBA), Scotia Bank, Caribbean Commercial Bank, and Ashley
& Sons Grocery.
Electricity
The electricity on Anguilla is 110 volts/50 cycles-same
as in the U.S. No adapters necessary for visitors from
North America but European visitors will require one.
Water
The water is safe to drink, however bottled water is available
at hotels and convenience stores.
Dress
Due to the islands conservative British heritage, there
is a dress code of conservative clothing. Light cotton
dresses and light jackets and ties for formal wear and
typical tropical wear during the day. It is generally
advisable to bring a light sweater or wrap for evenings.
There are no nude/topless beaches on Anguilla; keep your
clothes on!
Safety
There is very little crime in Anguilla; however, travelers
should take normal precautions such as locking doors and
securing valuables.
Communication
Hotels and villas usually have phones available. Phone
cards are available for purchase at hotels, post offices,
supermarkets and some shops. All of the public phone booths
across Anguilla accept phone cards and you may call locally
or internationally from the phone booths.

Local Hazards
Black Sea Urchins. Manchineel Trees-beware of the little
green apples that fall from this tree, as they are poisonous
to eat and toxic to touch. Do not even seek shelter under
one of these trees during a rain, as you will get blisters.
Time Zone
Anguilla falls in the Atlantic Time zone, which is one
hour ahead of US Standard time. The island does not observe
daylight savings time.
Topography
Anguilla is a flat island that is approximately 16 miles
long and 3 miles wide. Anguilla consists mostly of coral
formations and the highest point on Anguilla is the Crocus
Hill which is only 213 feet above sea level.
