Getting There


Travel By Air

Montserrat is now reconnected to the travel world by scheduled air services with the opening on July 11th, 2005 of the new US$18.5 million airport at Gerald’s.

Air Travel to MontserratThe nearest international airport is Antigua with direct services from New York, Newark, Philadelphia, London, Toronto, San Juan and many Caribbean islands.

Several direct daily return flights from Antigua and St. Maarten on the carrier WinAir connect Montserrat with the rest of the Caribbean, North America and Europe. Charters from Carib Aviation are also available.


From North America,
American Airlines offer connections via San Juan; while US Airways, Delta, Continental Airlines, and Air Canada  offer direct flights to Antigua and St. Maarten.

Air France, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Caribbean Airlines, Caribbean Sun, Liat, American Eagle and Condor provide services from Europe and the Caribbean with several flights weekly.

There are daily scheduled inter island flights provided by
LIAT, Caribbean Star and which also operate to Antigua.

You can also visit the island by helicopter charter from Antigua. This is also one of the best ways to do a flyover from Antigua to see the island and the awesome Soufriere Hills Volcano. To do so contact:

Entry Requirements

Proof of citizenship is required. A valid passport is recommended for all visitors; however, U.S., Canadian and British citizens may present a Driver’s License or official ID card as proof of citizenship (* see special note below). Entry visas may be required of visitors from other countries such as Cuba and Eastern Bloc Countries, and can be obtained from British consulate offices. An onward or return ticket is required. Caricom citizens can travel on an official ID card, which must bear a photograph of the individual.

There is a departure tax and airport security tax which is payable upon leaving Montserrat: US$13 (EC$35.00) for CARICOM nationals and US$21 (EC$55) for all other nationals.


 

Getting Around

There are a number of rental car companies located in Montserrat. If you plan to rent a car, you will need to apply for a license at your port of entry. You must show your drivers license from your country of origin and a license will cost EC$50 (US$19). Also keep in mind that there are only two gas stations so make sure your tank is topped off before you head out.

Bicycles are also available for rent.

There are numerous taxi and minibus operators.
